May Day Travel Plans See Increased Costs as Vacation Season Begins
As the May Day holiday period commences, some Slovenians are beginning their travel plans. However, rising prices are impacting travel choices for many. According to Palma Matej Knaus, director of a tourist agency, popular destinations remain favored, though increased costs are a consideration.
Some individuals are opting for closer-to-home travel, with Europe being a primary destination. “European capitals and round trips in Europe are of course number one,” Knaus stated. Destinations frequently booked include Croatia, Italy, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Athens, Egypt, and Turkey.
Slovenian travelers are also diversifying their choices, with requests for trips to Asia – specifically China, Japan, and Sri Lanka – alongside Africa, North and South America, and the Caribbean. Despite the broader economic climate, Knaus reports that package prices have seen modest increases this year. “These are small price increases, we are talking about 10, 20 or maximum 30 euros per segment,” he explained.
He emphasized that widespread fears of significantly inflated prices – potentially doubling or tripling – are not supported by current data. The rising prices are largely attributed to the situation in the Middle East. These factors are influencing travel decisions for some, as travelers seek the best value for their May Day vacations.
