Rescue Efforts Continue for Loggerhead Turtle, Timmy
A coordinated rescue operation is underway following the repeated strandings of a loggerhead turtle, identified as Timmy, in the Baltic Sea. The initial incident occurred on March 23rd when Timmy was first observed on a sandbank along the Timmendorfer Strand in the Lübecker Bay. This prompted a comprehensive rescue effort, successfully assisting the turtle in returning to the water.
However, Timmy’s freedom was short-lived. Just days later, the turtle re-stranded in the Wismarer Bay. Fortunately, the animal was able to resurface following a subsequent rise in water levels overnight.
The situation repeated itself, with Timmy nasedel (stranded) again in the Wismarer Bay and later in the Kirchsee Bay. Rescue teams responded each time, facilitating the turtle’s return to the sea. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and are investigating the factors contributing to Timmy’s repeated strandings.
Further updates will be provided as the rescue efforts progress.
