The eternal mission in the Hormuz Strait for free navigation

Leaders from around the world are convening in a virtual meeting to discuss efforts to restore free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The conference, jointly hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, anticipates participation from approximately 40 countries. These nations are prepared to contribute to a defense mission following the recent conflict.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is also scheduled to attend the video conference. Sources indicate he intends to advocate for increased cooperation between the United States and other involved parties, a point of potential divergence among participating nations. The primary goal of the meeting, as announced by Starmer’s office, is to bolster the current fragile truce in the region and guarantee the secure passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz in the long term.

Slovenian Minister of Defense, Borut Sajovic, will represent Slovenia in the virtual conference. Macron and Starmer will lead the discussion, bringing together a diverse group of countries focused on maintaining stability and maritime access in the strategically important waterway.
