The new attacks have turned the situation around: 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon

President Donald Trump announced a breakthrough in discussions between Lebanon and Israel, facilitating a planned cessation of hostilities. According to a statement posted on his Truth Social network, he had facilitated conversations between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Both leaders agreed to initiate a ten-day period of reduced fighting, set to commence at 5:00 PM Eastern Time on the 17th.

Trump stated that this agreement represents the first significant dialogue between the two nations since 1983. Initially, the planned interruption of fire was scheduled for 11:00 PM Eastern Time. However, the precise outcome of Trump’s involvement remains to be seen.

It is currently unclear whether the agreement reached by Aoun and Netanyahu will follow through with the 5:00 PM Eastern Time start time. Trump expressed optimism regarding the prospects for peace, asserting that both sides desire a resolution and that an agreement is likely to be reached. He indicated intentions to invite both leaders to the White House for further discussions.
