Flick: Come on, if Cubar’s touch was enough for a red card

Barcelona defeated Atlético Madrid 2-0 in a match marked by several key moments in the first half. The game began with Atlético Madrid maintaining an 11-on-11 advantage, creating several opportunities against the Catalan side. Shortly before halftime, Atlético midfielder Giuliano Simeone broke through Barcelona’s defense.

Young defender Pau Cubarsi attempted a challenge, resulting in an awkward collision. Initially, Istvan Kovacs, the referee, issued a yellow card to Cubarsi. However, following a VAR review, Kovacs rescinded the caution, leaving Barcelona with ten players.

Despite playing with numerical disadvantage, Atlético took the lead through Julian Alvarez, who skillfully converted a free kick in the 37th minute. The advantage allowed Atlético to extend their lead further. The breakthrough came thanks to substitute Alexander Sorolla, adding a second goal for the visitors.

Throughout the second half, Barcelona primarily focused on defense, managing to contain Atlético’s numerical advantage. Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez acknowledged the team’s missed opportunities, stating, “We lost 0:2, but we had many chances to come back into the game. I don’t know if Cubarsi’s touch was enough for a red card.”
