On August 3rd, police personnel from the Criminal Police Department of PU Novo mesto conducted a routine check at the highway exit in Obrežje. According to Matjaž Štern, head of the department, the police stopped and inspected a large truck bearing foreign license plates. Investigations revealed that the vehicle was being operated by a 35-year-old Serbian national, while the ownership documents indicated the truck belonged to a company registered in the Republic of Croatia, where the driver reportedly held no employment status.
The initial inspection of the cargo confirmed that the truck was transporting furniture, loaded onto 30 pallets, with its origin traced to Spain and its destination set for Croatia. During the thorough examination of the vehicle, police officers discovered several euro banknotes located within the cabin area. The investigation continued into the cargo space, where further contraband was discovered.
Officers seized multiple vacuum-sealed bags containing cannabis. A subsequent, more detailed search yielded a substantial cache of illegal narcotics. Authorities recovered and seized a total of 154 cannabis joints, amounting to a gross weight of 177 kilograms.
The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the police to intercept illicit goods moving out of the region via major transport routes.
