A mummy of an ancient Egyptian priest has been a fixture in Slovenia since the mid-19th century. The remains belong to Akuesita, a priest and keeper who served at the Amon temple in Karnak during the 25th dynasty, approximately 680 BC. The mummy’s journey to Slovenia began with the Austrian consul general in Alexandria, who purchased the mummified remains while stationed in Egypt.

Subsequently, the Egyptologist Anton Lavrin brought the coffin, containing the mummy, to Carinthia, Slovenia. In 1846, Lavrin donated the artifact to the local museum. The acquisition occurred through a sales contract, which stipulates that Slovenia does not have a legal obligation to return Akuesita.

The priest was originally discovered in the western Theban region, specifically at a burial ground near the Memnon colossi. Despite its current location in Slovenia, Akuesita remains a significant link to ancient Egyptian religious practices and the history of the Amon temple.
