The Maribor Water Company, which manages the compulsory economic public service for the supply of drinking water across sixteen designated municipalities, has issued a public advisory regarding conservation efforts. The company stated that the combination of prolonged drought conditions and increased consumption patterns necessitates responsible water management from all users within its service area. The 16 municipalities covered by this service mandate include the City of Maribor, alongside Benedikt, Sveta Ana, Lenart, Kungota, Šentilj, Pesnica, Duplek, Miklavž na Dravskem polju, Hoče – Slivnica, Ruše, Selnica ob Dravi, Gornja Radgona, Cerkvenjak, Sveta Trojica in Slovenske gorice, and Sveti Jurij in Slovenske gorice.
The company, operating under the Public Holding Maribor group, emphasized that the current scarcity of water resources requires a strategic allocation of available supplies. Officials stressed that the primary focus of the remaining water reserves must be directed toward ensuring the consistent supply for the general population and other critically urgent users. Consequently, due to the ongoing drought and diminished water reserves, the use of drinking water for non-essential purposes has been prohibited across the service region.
Residents and businesses are urged to adhere strictly to these guidelines to mitigate the impact of low water levels.
