If you were to pay off the “fascist nostalgists”, you would buy Mussolini’s villa

Riccione, Italy – The coastal city of Riccione has sold the former villa of Benito Mussolini, acquired at auction, to prevent it from being purchased by a former member of the Italian Socialist Movement. The Guardian reports that the Socialist Movement was founded by individuals who supported Mussolini’s original political movement in 1946. The decision to sell the property was driven by a desire to safeguard the villa from what officials termed “fascist nostalgia.” Daniela Angelini, the city’s left-wing mayor, hailed the return of the villa to Riccione as a significant victory.

She described the event as a “deed of love and vision.”

Mussolini, the former fascist dictator, resided in the villa. The photograph depicting the property was taken by Profimedia. The sale represents a deliberate effort by the city to distance itself from Mussolini’s legacy and ensure the property remains within public ownership.

The acquisition followed an auction and underscores Riccione’s commitment to moving forward without association with the historical figure and his political ideology.
