The government has confirmed that the existing excise tax structure remains in place for fuel products. Current tax rates are set at 0.41759 euros per litre for 95-octane petrol, 0.33000 euros per litre for diesel, and 0.07875 euros per litre for heating oil. Based on these rates, the Ministry reports that 50 litres of petrol will cost 80.15 euros, while the equivalent volume of diesel will cost 91.40 euros.
Furthermore, the price for 50 litres of heating oil is estimated at 1436 euros, excluding transportation costs. Despite the unchanged tax rates, the government implemented a measure aimed at easing the rising cost of energy. Following a decision made on Friday, the payment of specific environmental and efficiency contributions has been temporarily suspended.
This freeze covers the contributions related to energy efficiency and environmental taxes for carbon dioxide emissions from motor gasoline, diesel fuel, and extra heavy heating oil. This relief measure is scheduled to remain active for a period of two months. The suspension of these specific contributions is designed to mitigate the immediate pressure of increasing fuel prices on consumers and industry.
These measures provide temporary relief concerning the operational costs associated with utilizing these primary energy sources. The stability of the core excise taxes, contrasted with the temporary reduction in environmental levies, forms the basis of the current fuel pricing structure in euros.
