Tourist arrivals in Croatia remain strong, according to data covering the first five months of the year. From January through the end of May, the nation recorded 4.5 million tourist arrivals and surpassed 14 million overnight stays. These figures represent a notable increase compared to the same period last year, showing five percent more arrivals and seven percent more overnight stays.
Analysis of the guest demographics indicates that the majority of visitors originate from Germany, followed by domestic tourists, and then groups from Slovenia, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. Regionally, the data highlights several key areas for tourism. Istria recorded the highest number of overnight stays, totaling 4.1 million.
This was followed by Split-Dalmatia County with 2.2 million and Kvarner with 2.1 million overnight stays. In terms of popular destinations, Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Rovinj, Split, Poreč, and Zadar were among the most frequently visited locations. The overall trend suggests sustained high interest in Croatian tourism, evidenced by the increase in both visitor numbers and the total number of overnight stays recorded across the country.
The data confirms that international and domestic travel continues to contribute significantly to the tourism sector, generating more economic activity through extended overnight stays.
