This soba, aka a disaster, a 500 euro difference

The Health Insurance Fund is facing challenges regarding payments for individuals entering long-term care facilities. According to Martina Vuk, president of the Assembly of the Health Insurance Fund, those undergoing assessment are currently required to pay the full cost of care before receiving a decision, a situation she deems inequitable. Vuk emphasized the need for a new law to address this disparity in treatment.

Concerns remain about potential funding shortages. The Health Insurance Fund previously warned of a potential 120 million euro deficit by the end of the year. However, the Ministry of Solidarity Future has revised its projections, reducing the anticipated shortfall by 30 percent.

Despite this adjustment, the Ministry is encountering resistance from social institutions. One elderly woman residing in a Ljubljana care home is currently paying over 1,700 euros annually for her care services. This payment began in December, and will continue from January onwards.
