Gattuso also paid for the failure, he is no longer the selector

The Italian national team suffered a significant setback on Tuesday evening, losing the crucial deciding match in Zenica against Bosnia and Herzegovina. This defeat prompted a swift series of developments, confirmed by the Italian Football Federation. The federation announced the termination of their contract with gattuso, a move that followed shortly after a previous defeat on Thursday.

Federation president Gabriele Gravina subsequently resigned, less than forty-eight hours after the unfavorable outcome. Gattuso himself issued a statement, expressing his disappointment and acknowledging the end of his tenure as Italy’s selector. “I depart with a heavy heart, recognizing that I failed to realize the objectives we had established,” the statement read.

Gattuso’s appointment came in June of last year, following the dismissal of Luciano Spalletti after Italy’s 0:3 loss to Norway in the initial qualifying round for the upcoming World Cup. The federation had previously sought out gattuso, a respected figure who was a member of the Italian team that secured the world championship in 2006.
