Unity Island chaos: seven vessels grounded, locals rescuing crew

A severe storm impacted Union Island, leaving seven boats and approximately fifty crew members stranded on the local beach. According to reports from Morski.hr, the incident caused significant chaos, affecting both the stranded crews and the locals who responded to the emergency during the night. While one local described the storm as severe, they noted that the weather event had been predicted and anticipated.

The most intense period occurred around 3 a.m., when hurricane-force winds were reported. Žarko Mrkobrada, Vice President of the Union Local Community Council, stated that the seven large sailing boats sustained damage, and that around fifty people were aboard. Mrkobrada described the immediate aftermath, noting that some individuals exited the boats and sought assistance at a local bar.

The event required a coordinated effort from the community. The locals were mobilized to assist the stranded individuals following the severe weather conditions that struck the island. The combination of the sudden storm surge and the number of vessels involved created a situation of considerable chaos before assistance could be rendered.
