The German brewery closes its doors after almost 350 years

Eichbaum Brewery has announced that it closes its doors, a decision the company’s CEOs, Uwe Aichele and Frank Reifel, stated was unavoidable given current circumstances. Speaking to the regional newspaper Mannheimer Morgen on Monday, the executives expressed gratitude to all involved, particularly the employees, for their dedication and loyalty to the brewery. Aichele admitted that despite extensive efforts over the past eight months to rescue the business, the prevailing circumstances made continued operation unsustainable.

The company had previously attempted to secure the future of the brewery by selling its malt supply, Karamalz, to Veltins; however, this transaction signaled the beginning of the end for the establishment. Several factors contributed to the brewery’s declining financial performance. The decision to close marks the end of an era for the historic brewing operation.

The management indicated that all possible measures had been exhausted to ensure the survival of the brand. The closure of the Eichbaum Brewery represents a significant local economic event. The company’s announcement confirms that the current market and operational conditions are incompatible with maintaining the brewery’s existing structure and output.
