Rajko Šugman, born on March 29, 1935, in Gorisnica near Ptuj, dedicated his life to the field of sports. He was part of an early cohort of students to enroll in the nascent academic discipline of physical education and sports at what was then the Higher School of Physical Culture (now the Faculty of Sport). Following his graduation, Šugman held various positions within the sports sector.
His professional career included roles as a collaborator and subsequently a teacher at the Higher School of Physical Culture, or the Faculty of Sport. Furthermore, he served in significant administrative capacities, including roles as dean and prorector at the University of Ljubljana. Upon retiring from the Faculty of Sport, he held the title of regular and honorary professor.
Academically, his contributions were extensive, marked by the publication of over 500 works spanning professional, scientific, and popular domains. His involvement in the organization of sports began as a student in 1955, attending the founding general assembly of the Academic Sports Society Olimp. Šugman’s long association with the development of physical education and sports left a notable mark on Slovenian academia.
