Egyptians sent a formal complaint to FIFA

Following their match against Argentina, the Egyptian players and coach Hossam Hassan expressed strong dissatisfaction regarding the officiating during the game. Coach Hassan stated that Egypt outperformed the current champions in every aspect of the match. He attributed the loss to external factors that he believed influenced the course of play.

Hassan suggested that the outcome might have been influenced by factors beyond the teams’ performance, speculating that certain interests might have preferred Lionel Messi to remain in the World Cup. He acknowledged the inherent unpredictability of football, noting that not all factors can be controlled, and acknowledged Argentina’s perceived overall favoritism at the tournament. The Spanish newspaper AS reported that officials within the Egyptian Football Association, led by President Hany Abom Rido, have formally lodged a complaint regarding the match.

The federation’s official statement included an explanation alongside their demands. The Egyptian delegation remained vocal about their grievances following the game, focusing heavily on the refereeing decisions.
