A joint pilgrimage involving approximately 35 monks from Mukdahan province, situated about 600 kilometers northeast of Bangkok, resulted in a serious traffic accident. The group was undertaking a 360-kilometer trek toward Ubon Ratchathani province, with the collision occurring roughly 30 minutes into their journey. According to the Mukdahan governor, the incident involved a young boy, reported to be 11 year old, who collided with the procession of monks.
Video evidence obtained from the local rescue team, Ruam Jai Mukdahan Rescue Association, captured footage showing the monks walking in an orderly line along the roadway before striking a truck with significant force. The accident resulted in multiple casualties among the religious community. Authorities confirmed that five monks passed away at the scene of the crash, and an additional three succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.
Furthermore, fourteen monks required hospitalization following the impact, with four individuals currently listed in critical condition. The incident has prompted investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision during the monks’ pilgrimage.
