40 degrees is coming back: dead, cracking asphalt and a billion-dollar bill

German meteorologist Jan Schenk has warned that despite a period of relatively cooler weather experienced in Spain and France during early july, very hot air is beginning to build up again. He anticipates that this warm air mass is expected to move towards central Europe in the coming days. Reports indicate that a heat dome could redevelop over a significant portion of Europe starting from mid-july.

A heat dome is characterized as a persistent area of high atmospheric pressure. This high pressure acts like a lid, causing the air beneath it to sink toward the ground. As this sinking air heats up, it actively suppresses the formation of clouds and precipitation.

Because the hot air has limited means of escape, it can intensify day by day, potentially leading to heat waves that persist for several weeks. Should this specific weather pattern establish itself, meteorologists predict that temperatures across western and central Europe could once again reach levels between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius. This buildup of warm air represents a significant meteorological concern for the region in the near future.
