The month sent a letter: We are witnessing an extremely undemocratic maneuver

Luka Mesec voiced strong criticism regarding the proceedings of the extraordinary National Assembly session held on Tuesday. According to Mesec, the opposition failed to mandate a parliamentary inquiry concerning the Black Cube affair and the methods used to circumvent party funding regulations. The inquiry was not ordered because the National Assembly ultimately rejected the agenda proposed for the session.

In response to this outcome, the opposition group has announced plans to resubmit a formal request for a special session. In a recent letter addressed to Zorana Stevanović, Mesec articulated his legal concerns. He argued that the coalition’s refusal to accept the agenda effectively nullifies the constitutional right of Members of Parliament to demand an extraordinary session.

Mesec contended that such an action represents a violation of general constitutional and legal principles, constituting a severe derogation of the National Assembly’s constitutional powers. He further suggested that, under the current circumstances, the actual enforceability of this right is questionable. Mesec’s critique centers on the procedural limitations placed on the legislative body.

The core dispute remains the mechanism through which investigations into financial misconduct can be initiated. While the opposition intends to pursue procedural avenues by re-requesting a special session, Mesec’s correspondence highlights a significant perceived gap between constitutional rights on paper and their practical application within the legislative framework.
