EU has abolished customs duties on imports of industrial goods from the USA

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced a significant adjustment to international trade protocols concerning the United States. Under the new framework, remaining tariffs on various US industrial products have been eliminated, and preferential market access has been granted for American seafood and non-sensitive agricultural goods. This legislative action involves the reduction of tariffs or the establishment of specific tariff quotas for several key commodities.

These include dairy products, fruits, soybean oil, pork, and bison meat, streamlining the process for these imports into the region. Crucially, the agreement incorporates a safeguard mechanism designed to protect domestic producers. This mechanism allows the governing body to intervene if a potentially substantial increase in imports from the United States is determined to cause serious harm to local industries.

Furthermore, the European Commission retains the authority to fully or partially suspend the regulation if it finds sufficient evidence of such harm. The implementation of this trade agreement is also contingent upon adherence to established commitments. The Commission may exercise its suspension rights if the United States fails to meet its obligations under the trade pact or if its actions cause significant disruptions within the trade flow.

These provisions aim to balance increased market access with necessary protections for the united economic interests of the importing bloc.
