Robert De Nira will replace Javier Bardem in the iconic role

The upcoming ten-part miniseries adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption, directed by Martin Scorsese, features a familiar face. Robert De Niro, previously portraying the menacing former inmate who threatened the lawyer’s family in the 1991 film, returns for this new iteration. Jessica Lange and Nick Nolte previously embodied wealthy legal professionals in the original, while Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson now take on those roles.

Morten Tyldum, a Norwegian director, directed the pilot episode of the series, as reported by the German press agency dpa. The project benefits from the involvement of key figures from the acclaimed film, with Steven Spielberg, the original producer, serving as an executive producer. The series is slated for broadcast on television screens at the start of June.

Javier Bardem, a 55-year-old Spanish actor recognized for his intense screen portrayals, contributes to the project. He notably played a former prisoner in Skyfall, one of the many James Bond films. Scorsese’s direction promises a faithful continuation of the story’s themes and atmosphere, ensuring a compelling viewing experience for fans.
