A seasoned diplomat with a forty-year career, the individual has held diverse international posts. Her experience includes serving as a cultural attaché in the former Czechoslovakia, a press officer in Chile, and a consul general in Chennai, India. She also played a role as a negotiator concerning the expansion of the European Union.

More recently, she served as the German ambassador focusing on Holocaust remembrance and the fight against anti-Semitism from 2018 to 2022. In February 2025, she assumed the role of secretary general of the IHRA, an international body comprising 35 member states dedicated to researching, educating, and preserving the memory of the Holocaust. Addressing the current global climate, the new general is focused on strengthening the organization’s mandate.

The context for this enhanced focus is characterized by a declining number of Holocaust survivors worldwide, alongside a documented rise in anti-Semitism.
