Poet and co-founder of Vilenica Aleksander Peršolja passed away

Aleksander Peršolja has maintained a significant presence in Slovenian cultural life through various roles. He served as the secretary of the former Primorsko dramsko gledališče Nova Gorica, where he also functioned as the cultural organizer for the Kras region. Furthermore, he dedicated many years to leading Kosovelov dom Sežana, and for over fifteen years, he also served as its program director.

Professionally, Aleksander was a member of the Slovene Writers’ Association. His early academic and literary involvement included time in Ljubljana, where he was the editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Objave. He also participated in the poetic almanac put forth by the students of Slavistics Fourteen.

Aleksander began publishing his poetry in the 1960s through the magazine Perspektive, subsequently appearing in numerous other Slovenian literary magazines and various anthologies. At times, he published under the pseudonym Aleksander Šandrov. His poetic works have received translations into several languages, and he is also a co-author of an anthology dedicated to Slovene poets.
