Flooding Disrupts Ljubljana Following Heavy Rainfall
Ljubljana – Significant flooding occurred in the Slovenian capital on Saturday, impacting several key areas. The event, dubbed “Bobo” by local media, resulted in submerged undercarriages and stranded vehicles throughout the city. Passersby and emergency responders assisted drivers who became trapped due to the rising water levels.
Particularly affected areas included the tunnels within Tivoli Park, Šmartinska Street, and recently repaired undercarriages along Dunajska Street. The flooding highlighted a critical issue: a €2.5 million drainage project, implemented just over a year prior to address these very problems, proved ineffective. The project, intended to mitigate flooding, left several undercarriages underwater during the initial heavy rainfall.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the failure and assessing the extent of the damage. The incident, referred to as “poplave” (floods) by residents, underscores the ongoing challenges of managing stormwater in Ljubljana. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
