Volkswagen Group Unveils Transformation Plan Focused on Streamlining
At a recent shareholders’ meeting, the Volkswagen Group’s management presented a comprehensive transformation plan encompassing eight key measures aimed at refocusing the company’s strategy. The core of this plan centers on a reduction in the number of vehicle models and variants offered. Management cited concerns regarding market fragmentation and the performance of certain models, stating that many lacked sales figures sufficient to cover development and production expenses.
While a complete list of discontinued models remains unconfirmed, several decisions have already been finalized. Notably, after more than 20 years of production, the Volkswagen Touran, a widely recognized family hatchback across Europe, will cease production. Similarly, the T-Roc Cabriolet, a convertible model within the sports utility vehicle segment, is slated for discontinuation in 2027.
Audi has already taken action, discontinuing its entry-level models, the A1 and Q2. These initial steps represent the first visible changes as the group implements its revised strategy. Not all details have been publicly released, but the shift signals a deliberate effort to consolidate offerings and improve operational efficiency.
The company anticipates these changes will contribute to a more focused and profitable future.
