Europe Faces Extreme Heat as France Declares Red Alert

Multiple European nations are experiencing record-high temperatures, with France currently under a significant weather warning. According to data, temperatures across Europe are at critically high levels. Meteo France, the French meteorological service, has issued a red weather alert for over a third of the country’s departments, marking the largest such alert in the nation’s history.

This impacts an estimated 53.5 million people. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu convened an emergency meeting with his team to address the situation. The extreme heat has led to disruptions across France, including the cancellation of numerous railway lines and school closures.

Authorities have also temporarily prohibited alcohol sales at a music festival due to the high temperatures. Forecasts predict continued temperatures of up to 42 degrees Celsius (107.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in France on Monday, with an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit). This heatwave impacts a large portion of Europe, highlighting the ongoing concern regarding rising temperatures across the continent.
