Celje Claims Slovenian Handball Title After Dominating Slovan

Celje secured the Slovenian handball championship following a decisive victory over Slovan, marking the culmination of a strong season for the club. The European champions from 2004 demonstrated their continued prowess, overcoming a formidable rival from the capital to claim the title of best team in Slovenia. The team’s return to the European elite follows a challenging period.

After a semifinal elimination in the Macedonian Ohrid in the European Cup, they are poised to compete at the highest level in the upcoming season. Notably, Celje’s last appearance in the Champions League during the 2023/24 season concluded with a group stage performance resulting in no points. Recent decisions by the European Handball Federation (EHF) have facilitated the return of several prominent clubs to the European stage.

As part of this initiative, three clubs from the former Yugoslavia – Celje, Macedonian Vardar, and Belgrade Partizan – were granted participation in the Champions League.
