In among the racers who expected a good starting position at the Sunday race was Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. The latter hoped that he could make up for the impression he had left in Barcelona, where he finished 12 laps behind the finish line after a crash into the wall at the previous weekend’s Monaco race. Leclerc had been putting in good results throughout the free practice sessions.
Both the first and third free practice sessions were finished in third place, with the second finishing just behind the top trio. So is this the beginning of the end? Alonso admitted that he might be racing in Barcelona for the last time, Leclerc has good form and has passed on his feelings to the first part of the qualifying sessions, which he finished in third place.
He improved his position in the second part, which he finished in second place. He was only behind the winner of the two free practice sessions.
