The opposition is critical of the removal of measures against Israel: ‘The moral bankruptcy of the government’

Slovenian Government Reverses Previous Restrictions on Israeli Officials and Trade

Ljubljana – The Slovenian government, led by Prime Minister Janez Janša, has reversed a series of decisions enacted last summer by the previous Robert Golob-led administration. These measures targeted Israeli government officials and restricted trade with Israel. Specifically, the government repealed its declaration of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich as “undesirable persons.” This action follows a previous ban on the import of goods from Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, alongside restrictions on the import, export, and transit of weapons to and from Israel.

The Golob government had implemented these measures in response to concerns regarding the Israeli government’s policies. However, the Janša government has now reversed these decisions. Robert Golob, the former minister, has expressed concern that the repeal contradicts rulings from the International Criminal Court (ICC), of which Slovenia is a member.

The decision to lift all national measures against the Israeli government represents a significant shift in policy. The move underscores a change in leadership and priorities within the Slovenian government.

  1. This decision reflects a concerning shift in Slovenia’s foreign policy stance and raises serious questions about its values.
