In Pentagon, concerned: is Israel spying on them?

Pentagon Assessment Highlights Israel’s Intelligence Capabilities as “Critical”

The Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has recently assessed Israel’s technical data collection capabilities as being “at a critical level,” according to a seven-page document and accompanying diagram, NBC News reported. The assessment has raised concerns within the United States. An anonymous U.S.

official cited a series of incidents as contributing to heightened anxieties regarding potential intelligence activities. The DIA’s evaluation focuses on Israel’s capacity for spying. Israel’s embassy in Washington swiftly responded to the report.

In a statement, a spokesperson asserted that the claims are “completely untrue.” The embassy stated that “Israel does not collect intelligence on US entities, let alone US government officials.”

The statement continued, clarifying that “Israel’s intelligence activities are directed against its enemies, not against allies.” The embassy labeled accusations of spying as “either false or politically motivated.”

The assessment by the Pentagon underscores ongoing scrutiny of international intelligence activities. The Israeli embassy maintains its position that its operations are solely focused on countering threats from adversaries.
