Sabalenka after a surprising loss: I fell into a black hole

Sabalenka Stunned by Dramatic Loss in Paris

Arina Sabalenka suffered a significant defeat in the Paris final, falling short of reaching the semifinals after a remarkable turnaround by her opponent. The Belarusian player led 5-3 in the second set, appearing poised to advance, but was subsequently overwhelmed, losing the next ten games. Her opponent ultimately secured the third set and advanced to the grand slam semifinals for the first time in her career.

Following the match, Sabalenka expressed her disappointment, stating, “I was unable to finish the set and Diana played exceptionally well, winning the third set. I don’t recall losing ten games consecutively in that manner.”

Sabalenka described the period of defeat as a “very, very deep black hole” from which she struggled to mentally recover. The former world number one, who had previously lost to Coco Gauff in the same final last year, indicated she will take a temporary break from tennis.

“I am currently completely without emotions and energy,” she stated. She plans to step away from the sport for several days to recover.
