Ljubljana City Council Withdraws Parking Ordinance Following Successful Referendum
Ljubljana – Mayor of the Ljubljana Municipality, Zoran Janković, affirmed at a press conference that the city administration consistently operates within legal frameworks and facilitated the recent referendum process. The City Council’s decision to withdraw the amended parking ordinance on Monday, achieved with 27 votes in favor and zero opposed, has led to the scheduling of a subsequent referendum. Following the successful outcome of the initial referendum, which garnered 40 votes in favor and no dissenting votes, the City Council determined to initiate a further referendum on the ordinance.
This second referendum is slated to take place on July 12th. Mayor Janković emphasized that the withdrawal was motivated by a desire to avoid a financial burden on the Ljubljana municipality, specifically a projected one million euro expenditure. The funds will now be allocated to improvements within the city, including investments in “children’s playgrounds, new trees, and benches.” He stated the intention was to prioritize public amenities rather than imposing new regulations on residents.
The entire process centered around the successful collection of votes within the city of ljubljana.
