Vršič Pass to See Revised Traffic Regime and Expanded Public Transport in 2026
The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Infrastructure have announced a revised traffic regime for the Vršič Pass, effective June 15, 2026. The changes aim to improve traffic flow and encourage the use of public transport. A new initiative will introduce a free bus line connecting Kranjska Gora and Bovec, facilitating traffic movement through the pass in both directions.
The bus service will operate from June 1st to September 30th, 2026, with increased frequency during the peak tourist season – June 26th to August 31st. This enhanced service is designed to alleviate traffic congestion on the pass. Construction of parking facilities in the Vršič Pass area remains ongoing, and completion is anticipated to coincide with the start of the 2026 summer season.
Delays in construction were attributed to an extended winter period. Users are advised that parking availability may be limited until the full completion of the parking lots. The implementation of this new traffic system seeks to optimize access to the pass and promote sustainable travel options.
Further details regarding the bus routes and schedules will be released closer to the launch date.
