Tourist Sues Hotel Over Bottled Water Dispute in Dolomites
A tourist is pursuing legal action against a five-star hotel in Corvara in Badia, Italy, stemming from a dispute over access to tap water during the Christmas and New Year holidays six years ago. The woman, who had booked half-board accommodation with dinner, found that beverages were not included in her package. Throughout her meals, she repeatedly requested tap water and offered to pay for it, but the hotel consistently declined.
Instead, the hotel placed a 0.75-liter bottle of water on her table at a cost of seven euros. The idyllic holiday in the Dolomites was marred by this disagreement. The tourist initiated a legal procedure, arguing that she was denied access to potable water and compelled to purchase bottled water.
Her case centers on the assertion that water constitutes a natural resource and, therefore, a fundamental human right. She contends that a minimum quantity of water is essential for human survival. The lawsuit seeks 2,700 euros in compensation for the inconvenience and the forced purchase of bottled water.
The legal proceedings highlight a broader discussion regarding access to basic resources during hospitality experiences.
