If the 100 index is set to 2010 as the starting point, Slovenia is already at 127 today. In percentages, this means about 27 percent more vehicles for Slovenian roads. And for comparison – in Austria 21 percent more, the largest jump being 42 percent recorded by Croatia.
During the pandemic, there was a big drop, but the trend quickly returned and has been reaching new records in recent years. And what does this mean in practice? If in 2010 there were around 40,000 vehicles per day on a certain section of the motorway, today, with such growth, there are already more than 50,000.
The company for motorways in the Republic of Slovenia (Dars) estimates that motorways become very congested already at about 33,000 vehicles per day. On the most heavily trafficked sections, such as the western Ljubljana bypass, traffic already exceeds 70,000 vehicles per day.
