A record 274 climbers reached the summit of Mount Everest in one day

Ascent from the Nepalese side of the world’s highest mountain began at 3 a.m. local time and lasted for about 11 hours, Khimlal Gautam, a representative of the Nepalese tourism office, told Everest Chronicle. This surpassed the previous record from May 2019, when 223 climbers conquered Everest in one day, reports BBC.

This year Nepal issued almost 500 permits for climbing the 8,849-meter-high mountain, which is also a record number. Due to a large unstable piece of ice that blocked the climbing path, this year’s spring season began later than usual.
