Fathers change diapers today, but the “invisible work” is still done by mothers

Sooner or later, family life was quite different Our great-grandfathers were considered the head of the family, most days they spent working on the field, in the forest or in service, while the women – mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other relatives, who often lived in the same household or in close proximity, took care of the children and the home. Families lived in larger communities and help was almost always at hand. The older ones still tell that some fathers did not even take the baby in their arms until it was at least one year old, as it was considered that the care of a small child was exclusively a woman’s job.

Later, roles began to slowly change. Women also started to leave work in greater numbers, fathers became more present in the children’s lives, but often mainly as an authority figure or helper.
