Mountain rescue teams were alerted by Novo mesto police regarding a significant accident that occurred in the Zadnjica valley in Bovec. The incident involved a 26-year-old Slovenian mountaineer who reportedly fell into a deep crevice while traversing a hiking trail within the valley. According to preliminary reports from the Nova Gorica Police Department, the hiker lost balance while walking along an old military path.
This loss of footing caused the individual to fall into the deep area. Following the initial drop, the person rolled down the slope for an estimated distance of 50 meters. The descent continued over two rocky outcrops, resulting in an approximate elevation difference of 30 to 40 meters.
The fall resulted in severe injuries. Emergency response was immediately mobilized, with mountain rescuers from GRS Bovec and members of the emergency rescue team from Brnik arriving at the scene. To manage the critical situation, the injured mountaineer was airlifted to the UKC Ljubljana.
The extraction was facilitated by the Air Police Unit, ensuring rapid transport of the victim. Authorities confirmed that the rescue operation was complex due to the nature and height of the fall. The initial assessment indicated that the sheer force of the fall was responsible for the severity of the injuries sustained.
The prompt coordination between local police, specialized mountain rescue personnel, and air support was critical in safely removing the victim from the remote location. The focus remained on stabilizing the patient and transporting them to advanced medical care.
