Ljubljana and Maribor Seek Public Input on Energy Recovery Facilities
Ljubljana – A consultation was held today at Kino Šiška to address public concerns surrounding the planned construction of new energy recovery facilities in Ljubljana and Maribor. The meeting brought together supporters and opponents of incineration, with the municipality anticipating a final decision regarding a potential municipal consultation referendum following the event. The project centers on utilizing municipal waste to generate energy.
Mayor’s forecasts indicate a final decision will be made on whether to proceed with a public referendum on the incinerator proposal. Technical Director of Ljubljana Energy, Marko Agrež, addressed concerns regarding the municipality’s waste management efforts. “It is not true that we have not done anything in the field of waste management in the Municipality of Ljubljana,” Agrež stated.
“The situation is just the opposite. Following the construction of the RCERO center – a modern facility for mixed municipal waste management and processing – we have implemented a hierarchical approach to waste management.”
The consultation aims to gather public opinion and inform the municipality’s decision-making process regarding the introduction of an incinerator and its integration within the broader municipal strategy. The discussion focused on the project’s potential environmental and social impacts, emphasizing the municipality’s commitment to sustainable waste management practices.
