40 minutes of total isolation from the Earth

Four astronauts are set to embark on a historic journey around the Moon today as part of the Artemis 2 mission. The mission will involve a roughly 40-minute flight through space, venturing into the darkness surrounding our celestial neighbor. During this flight, communication between the spacecraft and Earth will be significantly impacted.

The Moon itself will obstruct radio and laser signals, the primary means of maintaining contact. The mission is anticipated to be a period of profound solitude and silence for the four astronauts. Victor Glover, the Artemis pilot, reflected on the experience, stating, “When we are on the moon, without contact with everyone, we will use this opportunity.

We pray, hope, send our good thoughts and feelings to be reconnected with the crew.”

The Artemis 2 mission represents a significant step in human space exploration, marking the first time individuals will travel beyond low Earth orbit. The crew will be focused on executing the planned trajectory and collecting data during their lunar flyby. Following the mission, the astronauts will return to Earth, concluding a landmark endeavor in space travel.
