Ten accidents, most of them due to snow

Police officials confirmed a significant surge in traffic accidents between 5:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., with a total of ten incidents reported. The majority of these accidents involved vehicles losing control and colliding with fallen trees.

Sadly, one individual sustained an injury as a result of these events, while the remaining nine accidents caused substantial damage to the vehicles involved. The extreme snow conditions played a critical role in the situation. Road maintenance reports indicate that up to three centimeters of snow accumulated in the lowlands, increasing to between ten and fifteen centimeters on the mountain passes and higher roadways.

In certain areas, particularly the Kočevsko region, snowfall exceeded twenty centimeters. The heavy snow presented considerable challenges for removal, and the falling trees exacerbated the problems. All available snow ploughing and spreading units were deployed to the roads.

Traffic flow was severely disrupted in several locations, including a complete standstill on the Jugor route. Consequently, the Borovec-Dragarji and Zgornji Čačič-Osilnica roads are currently closed to all traffic. Furthermore, roadways accommodating over 7.5-tonne freight traffic are also shut down at the mountain passes.

These conditions, stemming from the intense snow, continue to contribute to the ongoing number of accidents.
