The Russian government has banned the documentary, “Mr. Nobody Against Putin,” from three streaming platforms. The decision was made due to accusations that the film “propagates extremism and terrorism.”
This Oscar-winning film, released earlier this month, examines the increasing use of war propaganda within Russian schools following the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
It highlights the difficult ethical choices confronting educators as they navigate the spread of militarization. The documentary is based on footage gathered by Pavel Talankin, the coordinator of school events, who subsequently fled Russia. Russian prosecutors asserted that the film conveyed a “negative attitude towards the war in Ukraine and the current government.”
According to reports, the prosecutors also alleged that the film displayed the “flag of a terrorist organization,” referencing footage from Pavel Talankin during filming.
The russian court’s ruling effectively restricts access to this critically acclaimed work.
