A large fire in Celje, a firefighting air tractor needed

Firefighters Battle Blaze Near Celje Castle

Celje, Slovenia – Firefighters responded to a rapidly spreading fire on a hillside adjacent to the Celje Castle shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Initial reports prompted the immediate deployment of two units to the scene.

The fire’s progression was significantly accelerated by challenging conditions, including difficult terrain, the presence of overhead power lines, dry vegetation, and strong winds. As a result, the response escalated, involving eight volunteer associations and a professional firefighting unit. Currently, approximately 90 firefighters are engaged in efforts to contain the blaze.

Air support has been mobilized, with the first air tractor arriving at the site and a second en route, as confirmed by Žnidarko. Water for firefighting operations is being sourced from the Velenje lake, according to reports from the Slovenian aviation portal. Authorities are working to manage the spread of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
