The prices of cherries at Ljubljana’s markets are disturbing

Ljubljana Market Opens with High Cherry Prices

The Ljubljana market opened today, featuring Goriška home-grown cherries at a price of 18 euros per kilogram. Vendors attribute the elevated cost to the cherries being the initial harvest and anticipate a price decrease as the season progresses. Several sellers expressed the opinion that the current price point is reasonable for the first offering.

However, customer feedback indicates significant price sensitivity. Many shoppers expressed concerns about the cost, with a majority intending to wait for lower prices to become available. A segment of consumers, nonetheless, considered the price unacceptable.

Cherries available at subsequent markets are reportedly priced lower, averaging between 8 and 12 euros per kilogram. While Italian cherries were also offered at these lower rates, vendors primarily focused on the expected arrival of the Goriška cherries, contingent on weather conditions, likely next week. The market’s opening included a limited selection of Slovenian cherries, and sellers remained largely unavailable for extended interviews.

The potential future price of the Goriška cherries remains uncertain at this time.
