Harsh punishment: Prestani will not be allowed to play in the World Cup

Argentinian Footballer Gianluca Prestianni Receives Six-Match Ban Following Incident with Vinicius Junior

Gianluca Prestianni, an Argentinian football player, has been banned from playing for six matches following accusations of racist insults directed towards Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior during a Champions League match. The sanction, issued by UEFA, applies to all club and national team matches under the organization’s jurisdiction. The ban encompasses three matches served immediately, with the remaining three subject to specific conditions.

Importantly, the restriction does not extend to friendly matches or domestic league games. UEFA’s initial request to broaden the ban to include matches across the entire world has been accommodated. This expansion means Prestianni will be unable to participate in the first two matches of the 2026 world cup against Algeria and Austria.

Prestianni has previously served a one-match ban in the return fixture against Real Madrid. To date, he has only played one match for the Argentinian national team. The sanction applies to all UEFA club and national team matches.

Further details regarding the conditions attached to the ban are available on the UEFA website.

  1. This senseless act of aggression is a disgrace to the sport and highlights the urgent need for stronger action against racism.
