Cuba for the second time this week in complete darkness

More than 10 million people in cuba have once again experienced a complete loss of electricity, marking the second time this week the state power grid has failed. The Cuban Ministry of Energy released a statement via social media, confirming that the entire power system had been disconnected. They indicated that restoration protocols were already underway.

The network operator, UNE, also provided reassurance, stating that power supply is being progressively restored. Crucially, priority is being given to vital infrastructure, including hospitals and essential water systems. This situation represents a widespread blackout across cuba.

The BBC reports that the United States has been deliberately restricting fuel imports, effectively halting the inflow of foreign oil necessary to operate cuba’s power plants. This action has contributed to three significant power outages within the last month. Furthermore, cuba’s electricity grid is considered relatively outdated, compounding the challenges in maintaining a reliable power supply.

This ongoing issue highlights the vulnerabilities within cuba’s energy infrastructure.
