Mahnič reported freedom due to insulting post

Sajovic’s Office Criticizes Mahnič’s Response to Pirc Musar’s Decision

Ljubljana – The largest parliamentary group, led by Zoran Stefanovic, has formally criticized Freedom Movement MP Jožko Mahnič for his reaction to President Nataša Pirc Musar’s decision not to propose a candidate for the mandate in the first round of parliamentary elections. Mahnič wrote a series of posts on X following the announcement, responding to commentary suggesting Pirc Musar was deliberately withholding the mandate from SDS leader Janez Janša. In his posts, Mahnič stated, “Who cares about the communajzar Nataša Pirc Musar, since we will give it to him if the law on the government is passed next week and we then coordinate the coalition agreement.” Stefanovic’s office responded with a letter to the President of the National Assembly, asserting that Mahnič’s response was inappropriate and disrespectful to his position.

The group argues that Mahnič violated Article 8 of the Ethical Code for MPs, which emphasizes the principles of dignity and respect within parliamentary proceedings. The cited article stipulates that MPs must maintain a standard of conduct befitting their role. Borut Sajovic, the Freedom MPs’ leader, also signed the letter.

The group is seeking clarification regarding the process of awarding the mandate and expects a more measured response from Mahnič.
