Red traffic calendar: three holidays in a row

High Traffic Volumes Recorded on Slovenian Motorways During Whit Monday

According to data from the State Statistical Office (Surs), significant traffic volumes were observed on Slovenian state roads on Sunday, June 8th, 2025, specifically on the Drenov Grič section. The highway meter recorded 68,000 vehicles, representing an almost 20 percent increase compared to the previous year’s figures. The Traffic Information Center for State Roads (PIC) also confirmed elevated traffic loadings during the period.

This surge in traffic is attributed to a confluence of factors, including holiday travel patterns across Europe. “This is a traditional phenomenon,” explained Brane Nastran, head of the PIC, in a statement to 24ur.com. “Many European countries observe holidays during this time, which directly impacts traffic flows within our own state.”

Specifically, increased travel is linked to holidays beginning in countries such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Hungary.

The heightened traffic volume is anticipated to continue as summer approaches. The data highlights the ongoing importance of monitoring traffic conditions and managing road usage effectively.
