Why was the Primorska highway closed for 11 hours?

Highway Closure Extended Due to Traffic Accident and Cargo Handling Delays

The prolonged closure of a section of highway following a traffic accident is drawing scrutiny, and Dars, the traffic and traffic safety management service, is addressing the concerns. Head of Dars, Zvonko Zavasnik, outlined the complex process involved in resolving the incident. “Dars’ initial response involves securing the area, followed by the continued investigation conducted by the police and the investigating judge,” Zavasnik explained.

“Subsequently, Dars is responsible for mitigating the consequences and rectifying the signaling.”

This particular closure was extended due to a significant accident involving a truck carrying animal products. The overturned vehicle necessitated notification of the veterinary inspection. According to Zavasnik, “Until the inspection provided its opinion regarding the handling of the goods, the situation remained unresolved, and the cargo could not be moved.”

Zavasnik acknowledged that the reaction time of the veterinary service on Monday was not ideal.

“We experienced a significant delay, waiting for several hours for their assessment.” Dars personnel then worked to compensate for this delay in traffic flow. The incident highlights the multi-agency coordination required in managing traffic disruptions and underscores Dars’ role in restoring normal traffic conditions following such events.
